Orientation in the health system of Slovakia is complicated. Firstly, expat medical service in Bratislava is scarce. Most medical professionals do not speak english at all. Many english speaking doctors are not able to understand patients history and language confusion can be dangerous. Some procedures are difficult to explain to Slovaks and become a nightmare for foreigners. The website ineurolog.sk provides a new service for foreigners – expats living long-term in Slovakia. You can contact the doctor by email or chat with him online. If necessary, we can carry out a medical examination or treatment. We can give you tips on general practitioners or paediatricians. We can also advise whom to turn to in case of unexpected complications during pregnancy. If necessary, we can assist with translation from a foreign language into Slovak.
Due to the range of necessary services, prices and services are negotiated individually. Also, if you have valid health insurance in Slovakia (or in the territory that includes Slovakia, for example the European Union or the whole world), we will try to cover all agreed services from this insurance as a matter of priority. Furthe details of healthcare insurance is available here.
Good to know: If you need help in any urgent medical situation, do not wait any longer. Simply dial 112 or call for any assistance by local people („prvu pomoc“) or call an ambulance („zavolat zachranku“). Slovak operators at 112 (similar to 911 in the USA) speak english and provide medical assistance until the ambulance arrives.
